Deputy Manager - Bishops Stortford



Our client is looking for a Deputy Manager for their 66 place nursery in Bishops Stortford.

Purpose of the Role:  The Deputy is line managed by the Nursery Management Team.  The Deputy is responsible for ensuring that the nursery is organised to meet the needs of all the children at the nursery alongside the Management Team and to deputise in their absence. 

Main Responsibilities – to assist the Nursery Management in the following :

This includes but is not limited to the following duties:

·        supervising staff on a daily basis including assisting in the preparation and checking of staff rotas to ensure that ratios are maintained at all times

·        liaising with parents over the care of their children, meeting new parents and assisting with the settling in with children.  Ensuring children’s records are maintained accurately and kept up to date

·        working with staff to identify their training needs, support their personal development through mentoring, regular supervision sessions and work reviews, and assist in the annual staff appraisal system

·        co-ordinating staff in planning activities, ensuring that these relate to the children’s developmental needs, cover the whole curriculum and ensuring that all requirements of the EYFS are achieved

·        actively participating in the care of the children

·        maintaining confidentiality at all times

·        reporting to Nursery Management Team or the Designated Safeguarding Person any incidents that cause concern about the welfare of the children

·        ensuring the building and equipment is maintained in a safe condition, reporting faults to the Nursery Management Team.  Ensuring that there are adequate stocks and supplies of all equipment

·        attending parent and staff meetings and training sessions as required

·        implementing policies and procedures to ensure that the nursery runs within current legislation and guidelines, updating own knowledge as required.  Ensuring that all regulations involving children are followed

·        to commit to developing and maintaining a multi cultural, anti racist, non sexist environment, respecting the children’s individual differences

·        liaising with nursery management and other team members to ensure the effective operation of the nursery, ensuring quality is maintained in all areas and reviewed regularly

·        promoting childcare to parents, local companies and social services so as to secure high occupancy, utilisation, efficiency and effective development of the centre

Conditions of Service

 

Hours             39.5 hours per week on a rota basis between 0730-1830 hours Monday to Friday

Holidays        20 days paid holiday per year plus statutory holidays

Salary:           Negotiable depending on experience

Person Specification

 

Qualifications and Experience - Essential

·                    Level 3 or above qualification in childcare

·                    Minimum of two years experience in a nursery or similar setting

·                    Management or team leader experience in a nursery/similar setting

·                    Experience of implementing EYFS in a nursery/similar setting

Qualifications and Experience – Preferred

 

·                    Safeguarding Children qualification

·                    First aid qualification

Skills and Experience - Essential

 

·                    Good knowledge of EYFS and its implementation in a nursery or similar setting: must be able to demonstrate skill in this area when leading other staff

·                    Good knowledge of health and safety in a nursery: must be able to supervise staff in this area of business operations to ensure required standards are maintained

·                    Ability to multitask and to ensure continuous care of children when interruptions occur

Skills and Experience – Preferred

 

·                    Ability to motivate staff in the daily operation of the nursery

·                    Able to demonstrate creativity in activities for children and motivate other staff to show creativity in their planning

Personal Skills – Essential

 

·                    Good communication skills with children, parents and colleagues

·                    A friendly and welcoming manner

·                    Strong prioritisation skills in ensuring nursery operates in the required manner

·                    Willing to undertake professional updating as required by the nursery management
