Deputy Manager - Birlingham, nr Worcester



We are looking for a Deputy Manager for our client's nursery based in Birlingham.  Applicants must be qualified to level 3 standard and have at least 2 years post qualifying experience together with at a working knowledge of the EYFS

KEY OBJECTIVES:

  • Assist with the effective daily management of the nursery in accordance with Company Policy; the Children Act 1989, and other relevant legislation; and all Local Authority and OFSTED requirements.
  • Ensure the safety, security and well being of all children registered with the nursery.
  • In the absence of the Nursery Manager, undertake overall management responsibility for the nursery, including liaising with OFSTED and all external agencies.
  • Assist the Manager in ensuring all agreed Company Policies and procedures are maintained in the nursery at all times.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operational 

  • Assist the Nursery Manager in providing effective day-to-day management of the nursery.
  • To assist the manager in showing parents around the nursery facilities and sending out information.
  • Develop excellent communications with parents/carers, encouraging them to participate in their child’s progress and development.
  • In consultation with the Nursery Manager, formulate, operate and evaluate a programme of activities, suitable for the age range of children, following the EYFS framework.
  • Assist the Nursery Manager with all paperwork within the nursery, including the weekly and monthly returns.
  • In conjunction with the Nursery Manager, ensure that all required standards, ratios and conditions of registration are maintained at all times.
  • Be fully conversant with the Business Management System.
  • Assist with the organisation of and attend all parents meetings and open days as required.
  • Ensure that following any OFSTED visits that any recommendations made by the inspectors are actioned.
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day management within own room, encouraging good practice by the staff team with regard to individual group work with children. and evaluate children’s progress through play and activities.
  • To ensure that the nursery is fully properly equipped and ensure that orders are generated on time.

Personnel

  • In the absence of the Nursery Manager, ensure that the Nursery is appropriately staffed and that the correct levels of qualified/unqualified staff are maintained at all times.
  • Assist with the recruitment, training, motivation and development of staff within the nursery, taking into account of Company Policy and all statutory requirements to ensure that staff fulfil the provisions of their job descriptions.
  • Assist with the organisation of and attend regular staff meetings and appropriate training sessions, and ensure staff are kept up to date on Company Policy and Procedures and OFSTED requirements.
  • Assist with the completion of all staff rotas, ensuring they are both accurate and timely, including reporting of absence through sickness and holidays.
  • Ensure all trainees within the Nursery receive appropriate mentoring and training in accordance with their individual training needs.
  • To work closely with Senior Nursery Nurses to ensure that play and activities are appropriate to the age and stage of development of the child.
  • To maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • To be involved in out of working hours activities, e.g. Training, Summer Fayre, Christmas Party and Open Days. 

Financial

  • Assist the Nursery Manager in monitoring and controlling all costs within the Nursery.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the fees recording and collection of age debt within the month.

Health and Safety 

  • Ensure that the highest standards of safety, security, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times within the Nursery.
  • In the absence of the Nursery Manager, ensure that all security and safety systems are always fully operational and used properly by all staff.
  • Supervise the administration of all medication within the nursery.

General

    • Adhere to the Company Policies and Procedures including attendance at meetings, preparation of reports and any other duties as required.
    • Ensure the Company’s Equal Opportunities Policy is adhered to at all times.
    • The post holder may be required to perform duties other than those given in the job description for the post. Such variations are a common occurrence and would not in themselves justify the revaluation of the post.
